Today's Fat Tuesday... It's Mardi Gras, y'all!

On this episode we talk about the parades from the past week and two special Catholic media events taking place today. We also delve into the Catholic roots of Mardi Gras. And I make gumbo!

Last night we were privileged to attend the Bacchus parade in New Orleans. We staked out a spot (or actually, Big D staked out a spot) on St. Charles Avenue, right in front of Cannon's Restaurant. We were on the neutral ground, and Big D had set up a couple of 10ft. ladders. Perfect for catching beads. The parade started to roll at 5:15, so the night descended upon us before the float started to pass by. And the crowd! Unbelievable! I can't begin to describe to you the number of people lining St. Charles Avenue. Wow! You might get a sense of it though by watching the video below.

Here is some video I shot at the Saints victory parade in New Orleans on Tuesday, February 9, 2010. We are proud of our New Orleans Saints!

It is reported that there were 800,000 to 1 million people at that parade. It was truly amazing.

On the menu today... a mega seafood blowout with Big D, a long-overdue date night with my honey, our Lebanese New Year's celebration (complete with grape leaves and hummus!), and the Epiphany (with a heads-up towards Mardi Gras!). We also have our first "Weekly Blog Post Recap," and we announce the winner of our contest for the book set of Time Management: A Catholic Approach.

This has been a wonderful Mardi Gras season for us! We hit four parades: Olympia in Covington, Orpheus in Mandeville, then Thoth and Zulu in New Orleans.

Zulu was definitely the highlight. This was the first time that we have made it to Zulu. It rolls at 8AM, so you have to be there early... to find a parking space and to find a good spot on the parade route.

This is the king cake that I made about a month ago for my oldest daughter's birthday.

Tomorrow is Lundi Gras and I will spend the afternoon making another king cake. This one will be for the party we are going to on Mardi Gras afternoon.

 In this episode we briefly discuss Mardi Gras and king cakes. We also talk about an upcoming event that our family will attend.
