CF84 - A Cocktail, A Cookbook, and My Three Favorite Prayers

Beer Bloody Mary

Intro:

This is Jeff Young, the Catholic Foodie at catholicfoodie.com, and you are listening to episode 84 of the Catholic Foodie: A Cocktail, A Cookbook, and My 3 Favorite Prayers

Welcome, folks, to the Catholic Foodie, where food meets faith. I am your host Jeff Young and we are going to talk about cocktails made with beer today. That’s right. Cocktails made with beer. Oh, and a bit about tailgating! So, if you are the kind of person who likes to tailgate, but doesn’t like beer, then stick around. I’ve got a few surprises for you!

I am also going to review the children’s cookbook that I had hoped to share with you last episode. It’s called Now You’re Cooking, and I think you are going to love it.

Finally, I’ve been challenged, folks. And by a friend! So we are going to talk about my 3 favorite prayers. Why don’t you think of yours too. But, don’t go away. We have all this and more right here at the Catholic Foodie, where food meets faith.

CF73 - The Divine Office

What's on the menu?

Well, today's episode is not a "lite" lunch. It's a full-course meal!

It runs a little longer than a usual episode, but it's well worth it!

I feature a great interview with the crew behind the production of the Divine Office (online, podcast, & iPhone app).

CF67 - He is Risen! Alleluia!

On the menu today we talk about how wonderful Lent was for us and how great it was to celebrate Easter. [Speaking of Easter, we are still in the Octave of Easter, preparing to celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy tomorrow. Jesus, I trust in you!]

We also talk about altar bread (the bread used in the Eucharistic celebration), and the differences between the altar bread used in the Eastern Churches and the Western (Roman Catholic) Churches.

Over the next few episodes we are going to be talking about the Liturgy of the Hours and the Rosary. I want to know your thoughts!

Do you have a favorite mystery of the Rosary? Do you have a special way of praying it? While walking? Kneeling? Driving? In church or Eucharistic adoration? Call me! 985-635-4974, or email me at catholicfoodie@gmail.com.

Journey Through Lent with Foodie Fiction and More

If you listened to episode 62 (Who Be Rouxbe?), then you heard about our Lenten plans here at the Catholic Foodie. We are going to go through a series of reflections using two movies: Babette's Feast and Shawshank Redemption. We are using the book The Power of Small Choices by Hilary Brand as a basis for reflection. By the way, if you want to get a copy of this book, the Daughters of St. Paul are currently selling it for $2.00! You can get it by clicking here.

Prayer for the Saints by Archbishop Hannan

In 1968 Archbishop Philip M. Hannan, then Archbishop of New Orleans, penned a prayer for the New Orleans Saints. It was originally delivered at the first Saints and Sinners banquet.

This is cool.

The Bones of St. Mary Magdalene

Bones? St. Mary Magdalene?

Yes, that's right! I had the awesome privilege of venerating the tibia of St. Mary Magdalene tonight! As a matter of fact, my whole family had that privilege.

Listen to hear more about it... and to hear about Sunday's episode of the Catholic Foodie. We are going to talk about All Saints and All Souls, relics, Purgatory and the poor souls... and a few other surprises.

Be sure to join me Sunday, November 1st at 3PM Central on Ustream.

Who wants to go back to Egypt?

Egypt? That's right, Egypt, ancient Egypt. So, what does ancient Egypt have to do with us today? We'll consult Jim Beckman's "God Help Me" to find an answer. We talk more on prayer, and I announce a new contest.
