CF84 - A Cocktail, A Cookbook, and My Three Favorite Prayers

Beer Bloody Mary

Intro:

This is Jeff Young, the Catholic Foodie at catholicfoodie.com, and you are listening to episode 84 of the Catholic Foodie: A Cocktail, A Cookbook, and My 3 Favorite Prayers

Welcome, folks, to the Catholic Foodie, where food meets faith. I am your host Jeff Young and we are going to talk about cocktails made with beer today. That’s right. Cocktails made with beer. Oh, and a bit about tailgating! So, if you are the kind of person who likes to tailgate, but doesn’t like beer, then stick around. I’ve got a few surprises for you!

I am also going to review the children’s cookbook that I had hoped to share with you last episode. It’s called Now You’re Cooking, and I think you are going to love it.

Finally, I’ve been challenged, folks. And by a friend! So we are going to talk about my 3 favorite prayers. Why don’t you think of yours too. But, don’t go away. We have all this and more right here at the Catholic Foodie, where food meets faith.

12 Reasons I Love MacGourmet

Well, I don't really love MacGourmet. At least not in the same way that I love my family... my faith... and, occasionally, an exceptional pizza from one of those deliciously run-down mom & pop establishments. But, I do have to say that MacGourmet ROCKS!

It's that time again... Thanksgiving! It is just a couple of weeks away. So, what are you doing for Thanksgiving?

A turkey recipe, sweet potato & apple casserole recipe, feedback, a book review and more! That's what's on the menu today. I also share about our upcoming renewal of vows in the Holy Family Institute. Char and I are very excited about this! I hope to post some pics next week.

God, Help Me: How to Grow in Prayer

On the menu at the Catholic Foodie... Prayer, and the book by Jim Beckman, God, Help Me. Warning: this book causes me to get a bit personal. I hope you don't mind. Also, we look at "Cooking Up a Storm," & the kids share a bit about their summer. AND don't forget to VOTE for the Catholic Foodie in the Catholic New Media Awards.

SousChef!

It's been a long time coming. Yes, this is finally the SousChef! review I have been promising you for months.

I am sorry it has taken so long, but there really hasn't been a lack of content for the show, and I really don't want the episodes to be too long... so I have been pushing back this review.

It is a great Mac application! It is so versatile and easy to use. I can't recommend it enough.

Check out the review and let me know what you think.

5 Favorite Cookbooks

Tagged:

As I have said before, I love cookbooks. And I have many "favorites."

If a cookbook is nothing more than a collection of recipes, I am usually not very impressed. I have many such cookbooks. Some of them remain on my shelf untouched. Others I look through from time to time because they really do contain wonderful recipes. But what I really want is a good story. Or, better, a bunch of good stories.

A Sensational Sensation Salad

I love cookbooks.

I never really follow a recipe exactly, but I find so much inspiration and good ideas in cookbooks that I just can't get enough of them.

A publisher recently sent me a cookbook to review. I am not finished reading it (and practicing with it!), but so far I am very much impressed. I want to share one recipe with you today. I love this recipe!

Sensation Salad. Ever heard of it?

Be a Catholic Company Reviewer

Are you a blogger? A podcaster?

Do you like to review books and/or DVDs?

Then you will be happy to know that the

Catholic Company

is looking for reviewers!

How does it work? They give you a handful of books or DVDs to choose from. Pick one. They ship it to you free of charge. You review it and post the review to your blog, or discuss it on your podcast. Then, repeat the process. It's that simple.

Abita Beer ROCKS!

You are missing some Flash content that should appear here! Perhaps your browser cannot display it, or maybe it did not initialize correctly.

Ever heard of Abita Beer? I certainly hope so!

We have reviewed both the Abbey Ale and the Strawberry Harvest Lager in previous shows.

In this episode, I take you to the Abita brewery to meet Mr. David Blossman, the President of Abita Brewing Company.

Love to Cook? Got a Mac? You need SousChef!

More than just a way to organize recipes, SousChef actually helps you cook. This handy Mac app, developed by Acacia Tree Software, can do it all: organize and search, share via email and blog post, import from just about anywhere, and read your recipes to you while you cook. It will even make a grocery list for you!
