Who is Jeff Young? And what is the Catholic Foodie all about?

Jeff Young left his career of 17 years in education in order to pursue his passion for social media. In 2005 Jeff started to podcast his Spanish and Religion classes. He saw early on that podcasting and blogging are highly effective tools in transferring information to students.

But Jeff saw another dimension of social media in education too: the motivation factor. It's not only about transferring information. It's about engaging the students and having them engage the material, entering into a conversation with the teacher and fellow students. Young people, who growing up with screens, respond very well in an environment that uses media to communicate its message. Simply put, social media motivates students to learn.

Eventually, in November of 2008, Jeff felt compelled to start a podcast about one of his greatest passions... food and cooking. Thus was born The Catholic Foodie. An innovative concept, the Catholic Foodie took off and grew very quickly. Nine months after its launch, the podcast was picked up as an affiliate of SQPN, the Star Quest Production Network, which is an international Catholic new media network. The reach of the Catholic Foodie continues to grow.

With 5 years experience in podcasting, blogging, and social networking, Jeff is now a social media consultant. He helps businesses develop and maintain an effective online presence.

It's not JUST about food, though, and his perspective on faith is valuable catechesis, and I appreciate every show." - Sarah

If you are interested in how the Church's past and present history intersects with food, this is the podcast for you. Young's talents as an educator shine through; he explains concepts in a lively way that never sounds preachy." - Soyviz

"More exciting than Sunday sports channels, more invigorating than a Swedish massage, and more inspiring than a full set of 1955 Funk and Wagnell Encyclopedias… or the hardcover edition Code of Canon Law! Grab a cup of java, or maybe a good glass of vino, and come on down and spend some time with the Catholic Foodie… Where food meets faith!" - Bro. Jer

And what is the Catholic Foodie?

As a husband, father, and educator, Jeff Young is passionate about faith, family, community, education... and food! It is for this reason that he founded The Catholic Foodie™, which produces fun and entertaining media that foster growth in faith and community. The goal? To strengthen families and to encourage a stronger sense of community through the use of social media.

The Catholic Foodie brings much more to the table than merely recipes and reviews. The show highlights how food - good food - can be a sign to us of God’s love and care for each of us and our families. The tagline, "where food meets faith," speaks volumes about the importance of family, which is so often developed around the kitchen table.
