Makin’ Groceries… Louisiana-style

Makin’ Groceries… Louisiana-style

I don’t know where I’ve been. I mean… Why did I not see this before now?

I took the kids to the toy store this morning to buy a birthday present for a friend’s child who was celebrating his 4th birthday.

As I went to check out, I noticed a card deck on the counter. It was called “Makin’ Groceries” and the packaging touted the traditional “K&B Purple,” which is a really big deal down here.

Foist you shuffle dem cards real good.  Den you deals five cawds to eash poisen at da table. Da dealer ax the neighbor on his left for some groceries dat he wants.  You got to make a match of four of a kind to win a trick. If da neighbor have the grocery cawd, he give it to you.  If da neighbor ain’t got the cawd, da neighbor say “Go Make Groceries!”  If he make four of a kind, he get to play again.   If not, da neighbor on his lef get to play.  Da poisen wit da most groceries matches win the game.  Now y’all are “Makin’ Groceries!”

I really can’t believe I didn’t know about this before. I feel like I’ve been living under a rock.

Well, I’m going to crawl out from under that rock again this week and make another trip to that toy store. In dis house, I’m sure we would have us a good time wit dem cards, cher!

They have a website too. Here’s the link in case you want to check it out: http://makingroceriescardgame.com/index.html
