The first U.S. priest made his profession in the Institute of Jesus the Priest–founded by Blessed James Alberione, SSP, for diocesan priests, taking the vows of chastity, poverty, obedience and a fourth vow of fidelity to the Holy Father.

IJP (or IGS in Italian), founded in 1960, is for diocesan priests who want to share in the charism, spirituality and good works of the Pauline Family. This includes: daily Eucharistic adoration; prayer for the media and a “spirituality of the media”; devotion to Mary, Queen of Apostles; striving to be a priest-apostle in the footsteps of St. Paul; following Jesus the Divine Master, Truth, Way and Life (mind, will and heart).

“Your food is the Eucharist, your Mother and Model is Mary. Your spirituality is the Gospel lived in its entirety as explained by St. Paul.”  – Blessed James Alberione, SSP, Founder of the 10 congregations/institutes of the Pauline Family
